About
Making mathematical thinking visible
Visual Maths Builder creates clear mathematical representations for teaching, explanation and classroom discussion.
Why Visual Maths Builder exists
Mathematical representations can help pupils see structure, make connections and understand why a method works. Creating accurate diagrams during a lesson, however, can be time-consuming.
Visual Maths Builder is being developed to make high-quality representations quicker to construct and easier to present one meaningful stage at a time.
Created for the classroom
The project is created by a practising secondary mathematics teacher in Scotland. Each generator begins with the mathematics and is shaped by classroom practice, explanation and discussion.
The aim
Visual Maths Builder aims to support pupils’ thinking rather than replace it. The representations are designed to help teachers ask questions, reveal structure and make mathematical relationships visible.
