Using Visual Maths Builder
By using this website, you agree to these Terms of Use.
Educational purpose
Visual Maths Builder provides educational tools designed to support the teaching and learning of mathematics.
The website is intended for educational use by teachers, pupils and anyone interested in developing mathematical understanding.
Accuracy and professional judgement
We aim to ensure that generators, representations and supporting information are accurate and reliable.
Users remain responsible for checking that any material is accurate, suitable and appropriate for their own teaching, learning or other use. Visual Maths Builder does not replace professional judgement.
Intellectual property
Unless otherwise stated, the website content, mathematical representations, software, graphics and branding are owned by Visual Maths Builder.
You may use generated representations in teaching and learning, display and print them for educational purposes, and include them in your own classroom materials and presentations.
You may not republish the website or substantial parts of its code as your own work, copy substantial parts for commercial use without permission, or remove Visual Maths Builder branding from exported resources where that branding is included.
Acceptable use
You agree not to interfere with the operation or security of the website, attempt to gain unauthorised access, or use the website for unlawful, abusive or harmful purposes.
Times Tables Player Profiles
Times Tables Player Profiles are optional. Times Tables can still be used without creating one. A Player Profile is designed as a privacy-minimal way to retain maths progress rather than as a conventional user account. It does not require a real name, email address, date of birth or conventional password.
A profile uses an anonymous internal Player ID, a six-character access code and a generated or chosen display name. The access code can be used to restore the profile on another device and should be kept private. Users must not try to access another person's profile without permission.
Profile performance data can include attempted, correct and incorrect responses, accuracy, recent performance, response times and fact-level history. VMB may use this information to provide personal statistics, a multiplication heatmap, mastery information and Improvement Mode. These features are intended to support learning and should not be treated as a formal assessment or definitive judgement of a pupil's mathematical ability.
Personal profile progress and aggregate/public Times Tables analytics are distinct. Where analytics tracking is disabled for a profile, its personal progress may still be retained for profile features while its activity is excluded from global/public Times Tables analytics.
Class challenges and pupil information
Times Tables class challenges are designed to work with generated display names and do not require a pupil's real name or a Player Profile. A pupil who is signed in to a Player Profile can have their Challenge performance associated with their personal progress, but the Challenge identity remains separate from the Player Profile identity.
A teacher with the private management link may change a display name shown on that Challenge leaderboard. This is a Challenge-only label: changing it does not change the pupil's persistent Player Profile display name. If a teacher or school chooses to enter a real pupil name or other identifying information, they are responsible for ensuring that this is appropriate, necessary and consistent with their organisation's data-protection requirements.
Teachers should protect challenge management links because they provide access to challenge management functions and leaderboard information. Challenge management does not provide teachers with a browsable directory of Player Profiles or pupils' profile access codes.
VMB administrators may manage a specific Player Profile when its access code or exact display name is known. The administration tools are not intended to provide a browsable pupil-account directory. A profile and its associated personal history can be deleted through the available profile-management process.
Restricted areas
Restricted areas are provided for authorised users. Users must not share access credentials or use these areas to enter personal information unless this is permitted by their school or organisation.
Availability and changes
We aim to keep Visual Maths Builder available and working reliably, but we cannot guarantee uninterrupted access.
Features may be changed, updated, suspended or removed without notice as the project develops.
External links and services
The website may include links to or integrations with third-party websites and services. We are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Visual Maths Builder is not liable for loss or damage arising from the use of, inability to use, or reliance on the website or its resources.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful.
Governing law
These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of Scotland. Any dispute relating to these Terms will be subject to the jurisdiction of the Scottish courts, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
Changes to these terms
These Terms of Use may be updated from time to time. The latest version will always be published on this page.
